Here I go again.
It has been about three months since my last ‘quest’ post. Sigh. I want to apologize for that. I have been doing some Summer reading and I have become engrossed in this particular book series. So I have discovered a new guilty pleasure of mine. But I will go into more detail about that another time.
So after the last ‘quest’ post, I had obtained my Microsoft Office Specialist certification. I had scheduled another mock interview with my job specialist and was sent to come back but I acquired a weird allergy that caused my face to swell. If that wasn’t bad enough I emailed him to let him know what had happened and he never responded. My guess is that he thought that I was full of it.
After not having my email responded to, I received a call from another branch of Opportuntites for a Better Tomorrow and the woman had asked what I kind of job I was looking for. I told her that I was looking for something in the clerical field with range of $10.00 an hour. I gues this me asking for too much and she said that she would look a job and she will get back to me.
Weeks later, I received another call about two weeks ago from her again asking me if I wanted to come in for an interview. I was so psyched because I thought things were finally turning around. Wrong!
I arrived on time and waited for nearly 50 minutes to be seen until a gentleman asked me who I was waiting for. I told him that I was waiting to see Ms. M. The dumb receptionist said I never told her who I waiting to see, which was a lie because she was the one who told me to a seat in the first place. Why would you tell someone to have a seat in the waiting area without hearing what they are there for?
The gentleman told me to go upstairs and as I was criticized for not having a jacket and my hair was a little out of place. My guess is that it was due to the wind and I hadn’t noticed it. Ms. M imformed me that she was looking for someone who was bilingual. Which I am not. So basically it was a wasted trip. However, she did tell me that they had an interview with Rickie’s the following Friday.
It safe to say that I never returned for that. Instead, I was on another job interview for tutoring middle school students in reading.
It was a group interview and I never do good in those. However, I managed to make it to the final round of interviews. I was scheduled to meet with a prinicipal of a middle school in Queens today, however, I felt I wasn’t prepared so I called to try to reschedule. I was told that they would try to reschedule but if not they will consider me for the three other schools that I selected.
So I have my fingers crossed.
You know the funny thing about this is, I never thought of myself as an educator. I was always told to go into teaching, but I never wanted to. I was one of those people who said, “I don’t wanna teach these bad ass kids.” But when the opportunity presented itself, I just dived right in.
I feel I can make a difference in these kids lives, even if it’s only for 3 hours a day. Reading is so essential in everyday life and I find it sad that a lot of children are struggling with it. I just never understood that. I may never understand, but if I can help in anyway. I’m there.
